John Hagee is hyping up the 4 blood red moons (lunar eclipses) that supposedly occur on Jewish feast days.
John is making a lot of money selling his books and videos about this topic.
His four blood red moons theory is based on teachings from Mark Biltz.
A Tetrad, four blood red moons in a row that occur on Jewish holidays, have occurred 7 times since Jesus day.
Four of them occurred in 162/163 A.D., 795/796 A.D., 842/843 A.D. and 860/861 A.D., but John doesn’t reference them, because nothing significant happened.
That’s not being totally honest, as he leads people to believe that something significant always happens.
John points to the Spanish Inquisition, where some Jews were killed. The Royal decree of the Spanish Inquisition occurred on March 1492.
The First blood red moon occurred on Passover, April 2, 1493, one year after the event, so it wasn’t a sign which warned people.
The second occurred on Sukkoth, Sept. 25, 1493
The third occurred on Passover, March 22, 1494
The fourth occurred on Sukkoth, Sept. 15, 1494
John points to the state of Israel’s Independence, which occurred on May 15,1948
The First blood red moon occurred on Passover, April 13th, 1949, again one year after the event, so it wasn’t a sign which warned people.
The second occurred on Sukkoth, Oct. 7, 1949
The third occurred on Passover, April 2, 1950
The fourth occurred on Sukkoth, Sept. 26, 1950
John points to the state of Israel’s 6-day war, which occurred June 5-10, 1967
The First blood red moon occurred on Passover, April 24, 1967, before the event. But a true sign from God would have caused all four of the blood red moons to occur before the event, otherwise there’s no significance to having four in a row.
The second occurred on Sukkoth, Oct. 18, 1967
The third occurred on Passover, April 13, 1968
The fourth occurred on Sukkoth, Oct. 6, 1968
There has not been one time that a Tetrad of blood red moons on Jewish holidays, occurred as a sign before any major event regarding the Jews.
John Hagee references prophecies such as Joel 2:31 and Ezekiel 32:7-8, as times when the sun, moon and stars will be darkened.
There’s several problems with that logic.
First, those prophecies state that the sun, moon and stars will be darkened at the same time.
A solar and lunar eclipse cannot occur at the same time, so that invalidates John’s application of these verses to eclipse events, which would not darken the stars anyway.
Second, those passages aren’t speaking of the sun, moon and stars literally going dark.
The sun, moon and stars represent an organizational leadership structure.
We know this because in Genesis 37:8-10, Joseph had a dream, ..”And this time, the sun, the moon, and the eleven stars bowed down to me. So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?” It was symbolic of the power structure.
Isaiah used this same terminology when he referred to the judgment of God against the leadership of Babylon in Isaiah 13:10 “For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light; The sun will be darkened in its going forth, And the moon will not cause its light to shine.“ This was fulfilled when the power of Babylon was destroyed by the Medo-Persian empire.
Ezekiel 32:7-8 pointed to the Egyptian King and leaders being killed by the Babylonian army.
Ezekiel 32:11 confirms this “For thus says the Lord God: ‘The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you.”
Joel 2:31 pointed to the leadership of the Jews being removed after the tribulation of 66-70 A.D., when the Roman army desolated Jerusalem, the temple and the Jews.
Jesus’ prophecy in Matthew 24:29 tells you that the sun, moon will be darkened at the same time, and the stars will fall, so it’s not an eclipse event.
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
You can clearly see that Pastor John Hagee is not correctly using the Bible’s own definition of symbols, which invalidates his theory about the 4 blood red moons.
John Hagee is using Jewish Feast dates which are different than God’s appointed dates.
God commanded the Israelites to follow specific guidelines to know which day to observe the Passover feast.
Based on God’s biblical guidelines, the real Passover date for 2015 is April 2nd.
The Jewish leaders changed their calendar system when they were in Babylon captivity, so it is not the same as God’s.
The Jewish calendar has Passover on April 4, 2015, which is the day of the lunar eclipse, the blood red moon. This is the day that Mark Biltz and John Hagee use.
Since the lunar eclipse doesn’t occur on God’s Passover day, then it’s not a sign from Him.
Since John Hagee is wrong about the previous Tetrads being a sign to the Jews; since he is wrong about the meaning of the sun, moon and stars being darkened; and since he is using the wrong Passover date; you can safely conclude that his predictions are wrong.
In 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Paul warned us, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
