The Second Bowl Of Revelation 16
This Revelation Timeline Decoded Bible study focuses on the 2nd bowl of Revelation 16.
Summary: The 2nd Bowl was poured out as the Jesuits incited the French people to revolt against the Catholic Church leaders and France’s leaders, and their heads rolled. During the French Revolution over 250,000 Catholics were killed in the very places that the French Protestants had been killed.
Part 2
Revelation 16:3, Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died.
Revelation 17:15 tells us that water represents people. A sea is a large group of people, such as those in Paris.
“The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.“
In 1685 A.D. French King Louis XIV had ordered the Protestant ministers to leave France or be killed.
Now the Jesuit Jacobins ordered the priests of the French Roman Catholic Church to leave the kingdom overnight, and be massacred by the way.
The corrupt and tyrannical government of France was overthrown.
The King and Queen were beheaded on Jan. 21, 1793, and with that fell the government of France, laden with the crimes of centuries of oppression, corruption, and cruelty.
The Roman Catholic Church through France was desecrated.
Notre Dame in Paris was converted into the “Temple of Reason” 24,000 priests were massacred, and 40,000 Churches “turned into stables.”
“France,” says Cunninghame, “became drenched in its own blood, and the whole territory converted into a vast slaughter-house.”
The French had killed 100,000 Protestants at the great massacre of St. Barthomew.
And now “the St. Barthomew of five years,” as the massacre of the Revolution has been called, took place.
More than 30,000 were massacred in the city of Lyons; at Nantes, 27,000; in Paris, 15,000; in La Vendee, 300,000. In all France about two millions of persons were massacred of whom 250,000 were women; 230,000 children; and 24,000 priests.
The massacre of the priests “was but the prelude to a general massacre in the Abbaye, the horrors of which exceeded anything hitherto witnessed in the Revolution.
The people confiscated all the vast revenues of the church and all the estates of refugee nobles, for the use of the State. They subjected to themselves all ecclesiastical, civil, and judicial power throughout the country.
They murdered the royal guard, and some five thousand leading royalists; dethroned, imprisoned, tried, condemned, and murdered the king, and then the queen.
The ‘reign of terror’ witnessed the slaughter of one million and twenty-two thousand persons, of all ranks and ages, and of both sexes, till the streets of Paris ran with blood, and the guillotines could not overtake their work.
Thousands were mowed down by grapeshot fusillades, which was a mass of iron balls shot from cannons.
They were drowned in ‘noyades,’ where in loaded vessels, hundreds of victims were purposely sunk in the rivers.
They were roasted alive in heated ovens, or tortured to death by other infernal cruelties.
Lest you think this is too harsh a punishment, these are the same things that they did to the French Protestants.
Our Messiah truly does exact vengeance on the enemy of His bride.
Elliott (Horae Apocalypticae), and other interpreters, consider that the sphere of this judgment was in a special sense a maritime one; that its effects fell on “the maritime power, and commerce, and colonies of Papal Christendom.”
For twenty years, the fleet of England wasted in all directions the ships, commerce, and maritime colonies of France, and of her allies, Holland and Spain.
Their fleet was destroyed in 1793, at Toulon, by Lord Hood; by whom also Corsica, and nearly all the Spanish and West Indian Islands were taken in 1794.
In 1795 followed the naval victory off L’Orient, and the capture of the Cape of Good Hope.
The victory in 1797 off Cape St. Vincent was quickly succeeded by that of Camperdown over the Dutch fleet.
Then followed Lord Nelson’s three mighty victories of the Nile in 1798, of Copenhagen in 1801, and in 1805 of Trafalgar.
Viewing the losses suffered by France from 1793 to the end of 1815, we find that nearly 600 vessels of war, besides numerous ships of commerce, were destroyed, together with a large proportion of their officers and man.
From The People’s New Testament Commentary on Revelation 16:3;
Protestant England and Catholic Europe strive together upon the ocean. The old Catholic powers, those which in the past have been the vile instruments of Papal wrong, the nations whose kings have committed fornication with the great spiritual harlot, suffer the loss in this long and deadly struggle of six hundred ships of the Line, the largest war vessels that then went to sea, besides the thousands of ships of war of smaller size. At the close of the contest, the naval power of Catholic Europe had been swept from the ocean.
From Albert Barnes’ Notes on the Bible on Revelation 16:3
The sea became as the blood of a dead man; and may show also that, on the supposition that it was intended that these events should be referred to, an appropriate symbol has been employed. No language could more strikingly set forth these bloody scenes.
